Study Tour to Exchange Experiences on Coastal Resources Management Initiatives undertaken by Sri Lanka

The Study Tour organized by the SAARC Coastal Zone Management Centre in Collaboration with the Coast Conservation Department of Sri Lanka has been implemented successfully from 18-24 April 2011. The inaugural ceremony was held in Paradise Beach Hotel in Negombo.

The main objective of the study tour was to observe the Coastal Resources Management initiatives taken by the Sri Lanka since 1980 to manage the coastal issues at national, regional and local level.  Participants were given the opportunities to study the success and failures of the management strategies implemented by the Sri Lanka at different socio economic, political and environmental level.

The study tour, which includes  presentations and the exposure field visits to various sites  in Sri Lanka provided a common platform for sharing experience and knowledge on coastal resources ,  their conservation and management. The strategies and initiatives on emerging coastal issues and ecosystems management undertaken by Coastal conservation Department, Sri Lanka.

The Study tour developed understanding and imparts knowledge on coastal issues and resources conservation that may be replicated by the participants in their country of origin in the region through interaction, sharing and transfer of the knowledge.

The participants were given chance to observe all the strategies implemented by the Sri Lankan government to manage the coastal resources through presentations, group discussions, local community discussion and field visits.
